MARCH 2007
Greetings everyone,
I have been hard at work creating a year’s
worth of new classes for you! It has been a leap of faith to
invest time and money in a new venture and prepare to bring
myself into the public eye by offering classes to the rapidly
growing health community in Central Texas. I sincerely hope you
will support my efforts, and bring yourselves, friends and
co-workers to enjoy what I have to give. Thanks for your
encouragement and support!
Since I am seeing clients on Fridays and the office is open
then, I have brought a new office helper on staff to keep things
going smoothly. Her name is Jill Gibson and she has lots of
interest in natural healthy living. Please make her feel at home
and introduce yourselves with a little of your background with
health and with the Diet & Health Center. She is easy to get
along with and has lots of experience in her own healing path.
Keep an eye out for a Holistic Health Fair all day on Saturday
June 2nd. I am heading up a team of great people from the
Celebration Circle interfaith non-profit to host the Fair as a
fundraiser for the Circle. I will keep you posted as the plans
develop. We hope to have 30 professionals in all areas of
holistic living having open booths so you can meet and talk.
There will be speakers all day and lots to learn.
We have greatly expanded the monthly co-op from White Egret Farm
in Austin. They now deliver fresh, mostly grass-fed meats,
poultry, and eggs at prices below Whole Foods. I buy a month’s
worth of meats and freeze them. Of course the raw goat milk
yogurt continues to be the single healthiest food I know. I urge
everyone to get those healthy probiotics like acidophilus and
bifidus by eating them in real raw milk yogurt. None of these
products are available in any store. White Egret’s delicious and
newest item is a hand-rolled fresh organic turkey breast with
herbs from their garden. Yum!
See you soon,
Beverly
OBSERVING YOUR THOUGHTS -- IS THAT REALLY YOU IN THERE?
Who are you listening to right now? Whose voice do you hear in
your head? What is the voice telling you about your day, your
body, your past and your future? Can you listen to it for just a
moment?
The first thing you'll probably hear is "What voice? What is she
talking about? I don't hear anything. Let's read something
else". And that is your introduction to the thoughts that run
circles around you night and day. The thoughts never stop, and
usually we think that our thoughts are correct. Wow -- what a
mistake.
I never had any idea that the thoughts I was thinking weren't
really who I was. It never occurred to me. I thought that my
mind was who I was, and that all of its opinions were worth
listening to. Even worse, I never questioned that perhaps I
should be thinking something else, such as discovering the real
cause of my physical problems, and was I really happy. I figured
life was about getting on to the next moment as fast as
possible, and the best way to do that was not to feel anything,
not to question anything, and not to stand up for myself.
My outer persona was not in sync with these inner thoughts,
fears and conflicts. I had a really good "act" going and
appeared to be successful, smart, outspoken and all together. I
was disconnected from myself and did not know it. It took my
getting really, really sick for me to have to stop, look, listen
and begin the search for answers.
The good news? Having been "forced" into exploring my Body-Mind
Connection, I now find that the greatest joy I have is to
completely start "Me" over. To recreate who I really am and what
I really want, and what I really need to feel and say and do,
and to constantly question that voice in my head. Sometimes I
love that voice, and sometimes I want to yell at it, but more
and more I know that I am NOT those thoughts. No, I am the
Thinker of the thoughts and that's a whole other thing. The
Thinker is where my true Self resides, the Me that is the
Observer of the connections between what I think and how I feel.
Becoming conscious of myself as the Thinker/Self, and not the
Mind/Thoughts, is a powerful new space to view life from. In
fact, it is all so new, exciting, revealing and different that I
now teach classes on the Body-Mind Connection so I can have
another excuse to keep reading about it and experimenting with
it! There is so much to learn, and I am thrilled to be able to
start passing it on to my clients and to those who come to
seminars to explore this with me.
In the meantime, I urge everyone to buy or borrow any CD's by
Eckhart Tolle. Tolle is the most amazing teacher around right
now and I am totally inspired by his readings of his wonderful
books. I listen to them in the car and they help me remember who
I am becoming and how to step back from my thoughts to the
bigger perspective where truth lies.
I hope you can join me in any or all of the seminars planned for
2007. Emotional freedom, physical well-being, and spiritual
healing are the gifts of the journey into your Body-Mind
Connection. Aren't you ready for that?
2007 CLASSES: THE BODY-MIND CONNECTION
Wow! I have lined up a fantastic schedule of classes on the
Body-Mind Connection for 2007. I am opening my classes to the
public this year for the first time. We have a reserved space in
a local hotel meeting room so we can have more room and have a
screen for Power Point presentations. My ad is running March
through August in the Whole Health Magazine, and you may see
flyers around town in the offices of chiropractors, therapists,
acupuncturists and so on. Please share the class schedule with
family, friends and co-workers. This could be the best way to
have healthier, happier people around you!
I am offering a discount if you come to 3 or more classes. I
hope that many of you will come once a month for all the classes
and be my partners in learning and growing. The regular classes
(7 different ones) begin Saturday March 17th. The Saturday
classes are from 10 to 5 and cost $80 for the day. Take three or
more for $70 each.
The weekend classes (2 of them) will be on Emotional Freedom
technique (EFT). I am so excited to offer San Antonio’s first
training class for EFT. We are fortunate to have an advanced EFT
Practitioner here, and she (Jayne Morgan-Kidd) will be leading
the weekend with me. The whole weekend is just $125. You can
repeat the class for an additional $75. EFT classes follow the
same general format but because a major part of the weekend will
be working one on one with people in the class, the 2 weekends
will be quite different. I am a big fan of EFT and do it on
myself daily. It is easy to learn and can have both an immediate
effect when you are frightened or stressed, as well as help
resolve deep health problems and emotional issues. Visit Jayne’s
website (look on the class schedule) fro more on Jayne and EFT.
Register as soon as possible as space will be limited in the
hotel we have reserved.
BIG NEWS! A DIET & HEALTH CENTER WEBSITE!
With all the interest in my classes, I felt it was about time
for a website. It is an ongoing work in progress but I think it
is fantastic! Newsletters current and past will be posted there
as well as articles I write for magazines or newspapers from
time to time. There is a full class schedule there, and product
information from some of the companies we carry.
You will see quotes from clients and class attendees there and
if you want to add one, please email me and we’ll put it on.
Tell me how you want your named signed, and what profession you
want noted such as teacher, homemaker, etc.
Here's the address:
www.dietandhealthcenter.info. Notice
that it’s an “.info” on there as the “.com” for dietandhealthcenter.com was taken. Put it on your favorites page and
share it with friends and family that you’ve been wanting to
tell about us. There is room to post other health events so I
may consider adding ones you know about. There will be lots of
links and other helpful contacts on there too, when I get time
to do it. Enjoy!
LEARNING TO CARE FOR MYSELF
After my last two years of mental and physical health maladies,
it is great to be moving back into the world again. The lessons
I have learned have been immeasurably important and meaningful,
and there have even been a few “Ah Ha” moments of
semi-enlightenment along the way.
The trick now is to keep implementing what I have learned and
keep being committed to seeing myself and my Self in a whole new
light.
When I was home and not working, there was plenty of room in my
head for working with my Body-Mind Connection and following my
thoughts and physical feelings, noticing how they were linked
up. For example, I would be reading quietly and suddenly begin
to feel anxiety in my gut, or even feel my heart rate begin to
go up. Great! I noticed this so now I can look to see what
thought or memory triggered what emotion I am feeling as this
anxiety or racing heart. And sure enough, there would be a flash
of a memory that had popped up a minute ago, and an accompanying
thought about that memory. The thought triggers an emotion which
I could call anxiety.
This is how the Body-Mind Connection works. The thought triggers
an emotional feeling and we feel that emotion in our bodies.
We’re angry just now but were fine a minute ago? What happened?
We had a thought and that thought triggered an emotion. Perhaps
we had a quick thought “I’m not doing this fast enough”, and
then we have this trickle of emotion about how inadequate we are
and how hopeless this job is. And so on, around the clock.
The key is to first be aware that our minds are thinking, and
whatever they are thinking may or may not have anything to do
with true reality! Secondly, we become aware that we are
thinking these thoughts and that they are triggering these
feelings. Finally, we can choose to rethink with clarity and say
to ourselves “Oh, I just noticed I was putting myself down
again. That is a recurring habit for me that doesn’t make me
feel happy”.
Now that I am busy again, I have to remind myself at least a
dozen times a day to watch what I am thinking, take a breath,
and focus on the present moment. Tuning in to my body, I might
notice my jaw clenching, my shoulders tight, or my pulse
elevated. Then, I look at what I’m thinking and sort it out,
relax, and move on. The most helpful thing of all is to do a
quick round of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). Wow! What a
gift. Easy to do, and very effective in a huge variety of
situations. Definitely one of the best tools I will ever know.
Caring for myself is about loving and appreciating myself no
matter how I feel, or what I am thinking about myself or others.
The more I know that it’s not really ME that is thinking and
doing unhappy things, but just my Ego or whatever you may want
to call it, makes life so much better. I try to thank my body
and my mind every day for all the millions of things they do
that let me live and prosper. As the song says, “Try a Little
Tenderness”, and the one who deserves it the most is YOU!
