OCTOBER 2007
Hello friends,
The last two classes of the year are coming up on October 20th
and November 10th.
The October 20th class is on Diet and Lifestyle. PLEASE NOTE
THIS IS THE ONLY CLASS ON DIET I TEACH ALL YEAR!
If you want to hear me discuss diet and lifestyle issues,
without the expense of private appointment times, then this $50
class is for you. If you want to introduce friends, family or
co-workers to some ideas on eating and living in a more healthy
and balanced way, then this class is definitely for you and them
both!
One part of this class will talk about The Body-Mind Connection
in relation to how we take care of ourselves. So, in addition to
some great discussion about what to eat, how much water and
sleep you need (and how to get that), etc., we’ll look at how
our thoughts can interfere with our decisions on taking care of
ourselves.
I know many of us struggle with this scenario – we know what to
do, but can’t seem to stick with it. Why is this? What bigger
pattern is this a part of? Can we learn to manage our impulses
to misbehave, and treat ourselves more kindly?
Ultimately, we must commit to investing in ourselves, rather
than in our story.
I spent a wonderful weekend recently taking a mosaics class at
the Southwest Craft Center, and one of the students spent most
of her weekend talking about her health problems. She hardly got
any class work done. I came away saddened to know that she is
currently more invested in her story and her illnesses than in
her Self and her ability to make new choices.
No matter what is going on, we do have the ability to act
lovingly and responsibly to ourselves, and to forgive ourselves
just as lovingly when we make poor choices.
The trick is in acknowledging that we ARE in charge of our
minds, and that we can change how we think in an instant by
choosing to do so. It is sometimes a minute by minute effort to
acknowledge what is real, and what the truth really is in any
situation, whether it’s choosing a breakfast food, or walking
away from someone who is bullying you.
Anyway, enough philosophizing! I hope you choose to come to this
class and make some new choices for yourself and family.
See you soon,
Beverly
NEW BODY CARE PRODUCTS
One of my favorite companies is Wilderness Family Naturals. They
have an amazing array of unique products that no one else
carries. You can spend hours on their website,
www.wildernessfamilynaturals.com , learning about dozens of
wonderful new products, many of them edible. We already carry
their coconut oil as I feel it is the best in the world.
We have recently started carrying some of their wonderful
coconut oil soaps, deodorants, and “body butter” moisturizers. I
think you will fall in love with these products as I have.
Please come try the soap and body butters. They are very
moisturizing and have no chemicals. I have been using them for 6
months and my dry skin is greatly improved.
WFN is also the only place I have ever found nuts and seeds that
are 100% organic, pre-soaked, and dried at low temperatures
according to research done over several decades by the Weston
Price Foundation. While the nuts are astonishingly expensive,
they are so incredibly delicious, and they digest so well, that
it’s worth it! I could never eat nuts before because they caused
a herpes breakout. With the soaking and drying process (which
you can do at home if you prefer), the nuts are basically
altered into an entirely different nutrition profile and they
don’t bother me if I eat them moderately. We don’t sell the nuts
because they are so expensive, but I urge you to order some for
yourself from their website.
NEW BRAIN PRODUCTS
As I mentioned last month, we are now carrying Dr. Eric
Braverman’s four Brain Formulas. As the author of one of my
favorite books, The Edge Effect, Dr. Braverman knows how to get
our brains working again for energy, memory, sleep, happiness
and anti-aging. Now we are also carrying his Relax-Mate Brain
Tuner.
This little hand-held device sends pre-programmed electrical
signals to the brain, balancing whichever of the four main
neurotransmitters are out of balance. I can’t explain exactly
how it works, but I have used similar (and more expensive) units
before, and the Relax-Mate works so much better! It costs $295,
but we always give you 10%off on orders over $150, so that
brings it down to $268. Plus, we pay the freight!
Use the Relax-Mate daily for 20 to 30 minutes, while you work,
read or watch TV. (I am using it now while I type this). After
you have gained significant improvements, use it just 2 to 3
times weekly.
I find that I am calmer, my thoughts are more organized, and my
restless sleep patterns are improving. In addition, I am
definitely not so fatigued at the end of the day. I strongly
encourage you to read The Edge Effect and you will be amazed at
all the things your brain is in charge of, and that this unit
can help. Dr. Braverman puts all his patients on the Relax-Mate,
no matter what their problems are. He has even patented a
particular style of using the units as well.
The units are guaranteed, and I will personally accept returns
if you notice no improvements in your mental or physical health
after using it for 2 weeks.
THE DAIRY DILEMMA
I have suggested to most of you over the years that you avoid
cow’s milk, cow’s milk yogurt, cream cheese, cottage cheese, and
ice cream. Let’s review why I feel this is so important to your
health.
First of all, the main protein in cow’s milk, lactalbumin, is
one of the largest known biological proteins. It’s so big that
our immune systems sit up and take notice (and attack) whenever
they see it. It’s so much larger than other proteins we eat that
the immune system believes it to be an invader.
When the immune system targets dairy, it causes a variety of
problems stemming from mucous and inadequate digestion of
calcium. Sinus congestion and drainage down the throat, snoring,
sniffling, and ear and sinus infections are where the dairy
problems occur in the head.
In the chest, milk can definitely be the cause of reflux,
heartburn, and burping. I have seen it many times. It also will
flare up asthma and wheezing and can be the main cause of
asthma. Chronic minor coughing can also be the result of the
body’s attempt to expel the cow dairy mucous from the lungs.
In the stomach and digestive system, dairy can cause many
distressing symptoms of gas, diarrhea and bloating. I have
witnessed hundreds of clients of all ages resolve their bloat,
gas or diarrhea almost overnight when they gave up that last bit
of ice cream, or even that tablespoon of milk in their coffee.
In the structural system of the body, dairy is well-known to me
to be the single largest cause of arthritic type pain in hands,
knees and other joints. Undigested dairy proteins can cause bone
spurs and painful nodules in the joints. I have seen many people
whose decades old “arthritis” mostly disappeared in a month off
dairy products!
Finally, I firmly believe that undigested dairy proteins and
calcium is what causes plaque or hardening in the arteries. This
is called cardiovascular disease, but I would more appropriately
call it cardiovascular dysfunction due to the inability to
digest the proteins and calcium in cow’s milk. This problem will
not be resolved by switching to goat yogurt, but that will
prevent the accumulation of new plaque in the arteries while you
get chelation treatments to clean the arteries up.
The immune system can target even small amounts of cow’s dairy,
so it is important to try to completely eliminate milk, yogurt,
cottage cheese, ice cream, cream cheese, and sour cream (unless
it is 100% cream) from the diet. Most people can still eat cow’s
milk cheese, butter, and heavy cream as these foods contain
primarily dairy fat (not protein), or, in the case of real
cheese, the milk has been transformed to an entirely different
food after spending time aging and fermenting with bacterial
cultures.
Goat milk and goat yogurt are normal sized proteins, so very few
people react to them. Those of you who believe you are lactose
intolerant may find you actually are not – you were reacting to
the proteins in cow’s milk, but may be able to easily digest
goat and sheep dairy.
Finally, raw milk is the natural form of milk consumed by humans
since the beginning of domestication of animals. It is twice as
nutritious as pasteurized milk, and is less allergenic too. The
goat yogurt and milk we carry is, of course, raw milk. You can
join a “cow-sharing” club and get raw cow’s milk if you prefer.
(Check the internet for local groups).
Remember that the dairy lobby is one of the top 5 lobbies in
America, and their aggressive advertising campaigns may make
what I say hard to believe. But the truth is easily discovered
for yourself in a two week dairy vacation. Try 2 weeks with
absolutely no dairy at all, and then add butter. After a few
more days, try real cheese. For the final test, try some cow’s
yogurt or ice cream and watch how your body reacts.
